I would guess 24 as a nice nominal figure. Most webmasters and webserver setups I'm accustomed to have this or less on them.
Some low bandwidth/ small business sites receive 4 to 10 times as much visitation as others. Our log files indicate wide variations in what is otherwise the small business range.
The server computer should have enough available resources to fend off heavy usage spikes. Occasionally one of these small businesses will send email so you want the server to not be dragged down.
Today's usage anticipates tomorrow's upgrade. What is satisfactory one year quickly becomes yesterday's antique in need of replacement. Some life usage build-in is merited to allow for a server to be of service for as long as possible.
Despite electircal increases our colocation space starts at $200/month per server, $300/month for a managed care server or for your server-case/4U rack or other large device.
